Senior Database developer

Group: Database Development/Technical Applications

Reports to: Manager, Technical Applications

Responsibilities Include:

The senior database developer will be responsible for the design, development, and
improvement of the clinical database. The senior database developer will design
databases that meet all requirements for entry and reporting of clinical data; maintain the
integrity and quality of databases; control system capacity for existing requirements and
plan for future needs; and test new processes and systems. The senior database developer
maintains standard database dictionaries for dataset set-up; ensures documentation of
procedures, source code (if applicable), and change control for Good Clinical Practice
(GCP) and 21 CFR Part 11 validation within a test and production environment;
programs data edit checks; implements tested applications to production environment
once validation is complete; reviews case report forms for database standardization. The
senior database developer also will develop, screens, validation checks, back-end
programming, and listings during database development and will coordinate the testing of
the database prior to release into production as well as the subsequent release into
production once approved. The senior database developer will help define and develop
process guides related to database development in both EDC and paper-based systems.
The senior database developer will coach and mentor other developers in all areas of
database developments, facilitate process improvements for EDC and paper-based
systems. The senior database developer will lead collaborations/design sessions with
other team members in the development of applications or project specific strategies.
The senior database developer will participate in identifying and responding to issues and
make necessary changes to the existing applications. The senior database developer will
act as a liaison with the clinical data management team on system change requests to
current study database in order to understand potential issues and technical impacts. The
senior database developer will maintain existing applications enhancing functionality to
meet business and security requirements. The senior database developer will serve as a
mentor and/or trainer to other database developers, clinical data managers, data entry
personnel, etc as needed on the processes and systems within the Technical Applications
organization.
The senior database developer must have excellent written, verbal, and organization
skills. Must also have knowledge of FDA requirements for data management systems
and system validation.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education: BS or equivalent foreign degree in Computer Science,
Computer Information Systems, or a related field.

· Minimum Work Requirements: 5 years clinical and/or research experience. At
least 2 years CRO-specific experience or at least 3 year experience in a
healthcare-related industry, or equivalent, preferred.
· Skills: Qualified candidates will have at least 5 years of experience with
Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) (including Oracle, Clintrial,
InForm, and Ms SQL Server). Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice
(GCP) and 21 CRF Part 11 required. Advanced proficiency in computer skills
(Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.), the ability to be flexible and take direction, a
positive attitude, and good interpersonal and communication skills and will be
detail-orientated, and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment. Capable of
handling multiple tasks and have the ability to establish priorities and meet tight
deadlines. English language proficiency is a must.
